Beautiful Dorset, with its lovely coastline, good beaches, rolling hills and pretty towns is an ideal family holiday destination. Whether you are interested in an activity holiday, a beach holiday or somewhere with plenty of choice for family days out, Dorset has it all. Most families choose to base themselves near the beach, for obvious reasons. However this still leaves plenty of choice of places to stay. Camping, guest houses, self catering cottages and hotels are all popular choices. However many people with families choose to base themselves in purpose built holiday parks.

Holiday parks offer comfortable accommodation. Visitors can self-cater but for there are also restaurants and cafes available for those who would prefer not to cook. Children can be kept entertained in the indoor and outdoor pools, adventure playgrounds and through the organised entertainment programme. Many are located on the coast with direct access to beaches. One such holiday park is the Haven Seaview Park, which is located near Weymouth.

This attractive coastal town is a good base for exploring Dorset. It has within close reach of some of the best beaches in the county, as well as several leading family attractions. One of the most famous beaches in Dorset is Lulworth Cove and nearby Durdle Door. Lulworth Cove continues to evolve due to erosion, making it not only a good place for building sandcastles or having a picnic but also of interest to young geographers. A gentle walk along the coastline will bring you to Durdle Door, a massive rock arch. The sloping beach alongside gives an impressive view of this natural phenomena as well as offering an excellent picnic spot.

Not far from Lulworth Cove is the Bovington Tank Museum. A must see for all young boys. It is the museum of the Royal Tank Regiment & Royal Armoured Corps and has the largest collection of tanks in the world. It explains the history of the tank and has several live displays to illustrate the life of a tank crew.

For those interested in fish and sea life then a trip to the Weymouth Sea Life Park and marine sanctuary is a must. It even contains a shark breeding centre.

With a beautiful coastline and rolling hills Dorset is an ideal county for activities. First and foremost for water based activities. Aside from swimming children can learn to sail at various locations along the coast or take part in canoeing courses. Fishing is also widely available in Dorset. Walking is an ideal family activity or for the more adventurous riding holidays are available.
